Priest! With pictures!
Photobucket

This is just a confirmation on how shallow I am. I watched the film Priest the other day. It's a vamp flick.Since this may be spoilery and holds pictures (Yay) you can find it

It has Paul Bettany as the vampire slaying hero, whatshisface pretty boy from Burlesque as sidekick pretty boy/hero and Karl Urban as the villain in a hat. It's dystopian. The Earth is in ruins and mankind is hiding in cities made into fortresses ruled by the Church. "To go agains the Church, is to go against God."
The Priests are the almighty warriors, the only one capable of defeating the vampires. But alas, they succeeded, vamps are detained in reservations and the Priests have become superfluous. Until...one day, our asskicking, nowadays depressed Priest's brother is attacked by vamps. Pretty Boy!Hero! comes to get our morose Priest from the dark and dank city. The adventure is so on!

Our Priest begs the Church to be allowed to go on a rescue mission.

He is denied. He gets upset. And determined. He goes against God.

Aaaand, he's away.
Photobucket

Brother's house has been trashed. Look how our manly Priest's boots matches the wasteland behind him

Photobucket

But he's not alone!
Photobucket

A moment of 'what the hell am I doing?' before PrettyBoy!Hero runs after our griefstricken Priest and heads out into even waster land than before. Also; note how elegantly our practically dressed Priest's cloak enhances his tail-swaying gait. Only a man's man can walk away like that.

Photobucket

Focus!! Before ripping open a hive guard. Vampires live in hives here.

Photobucket

On the way, another Superfluous Priest shows up. To help, actually.

Photobucket

Not because she's harboring a secret hope of hooking up with our desolate Priest, who guards his heart against any emotions.

Photobucket

Oh dear!

Photobucket

Finally they catch up with the bad guys. Vampires on a train! And! Karl Urban in a hat. A lost and fallen brother.
Photobucket

A right Clint Eastwood staring match takes place and the female audience (me) got all weak in the knees. Will our steadfast Priest prevail? Or will he succumb to Darkness?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Yes! He prevails. Not unscathed though. But Fallen!Brother lost his hat.

Photobucket

Our rebellious Priest confronts the Church! Calls them liars! The vamps are not dead!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Our selfless Priest, hard-stricken by grief and sacrifices, by contempt for the Church, by the utter loneliness that is his future in the Wastelands, mounts his bike. The war has just begun...

This film is probably ranked as a C, at the most a B, movie. The plot; abusive church, vamps, dystopia. They all make for a really, really bad film. It's not. Seriously. Priest managed to hit each and every spot right. Paul Bettany's low, half-growling voice, the utter sadness in his pretty, pretty eyes, his unbelievable capacity of kicking ass...Not to mention the cloak, the boots, the ridiculous bike...His refusal to acknowledge anything that benefits himself, but puts everybody and their bastard dogs before himself...
They have stolen settings and monsters like whoa from other films. The city is from Blade Runner, the bikes and the wasteland is pure Final Fantasy, they've crammed in the Pinky-monster from Doom 3. I bet there are many more, but I got so hooked on the film I didn't bother to count.

All in all, even if I've been coming off as sarcastic here, this is a fabulous film. If you like Lonely!Hero films that is. Perhaps I am too shallow to be allowed outside these days but everything don't have to be so serious. To quote Fallen!Brother; "If you don't sin, you don't have any fun." I love it.

And Paul Bettany; I love 'you'!
